If I need to I will climb up a ladder or a step stool but I’m scared to death the whole time even if I’m only a step off the ground but then again I love heights I love roller coasters that make you feel like you are falling out but give me a step stool or a ladder to climb and I panic

I've been facebook free for about a year now. I haven't regularly watched the news besides political debates (which I subtly half pay attention to). I'll be honest, it's pretty dull, with few friends who hang out in person.

But I feel better for it. At least I know I'm not dependent on it. I don't need all the crap out there, I want to develop my own thoughts.

Here is part of what I wrote on my own leaving Fakebook post (for which I borrowed your Facebook 1984 picture, and gave credit):

What is Fakebook?

First, it is a tool of enslavement. Fakebook is like a drug; it drip feeds you “likes” in an effort to make you a neurotic whose self-worth is measured in those likes, and who therefore keeps trying to get more. In order to get those, of course, one has to fit in with the tastes of one’s contacts (Fakebook keeps suggesting an ever expanding list of contacts) and so you find yourself conforming to whatever propaganda Zuckerberg decides you should believe. And he censors the rest.

This censorship is both direct and indirect. Fakebook direct, or overt, censorship is crude and highly visible. Links from RT or other non-Amerikastani or NATO-controlled media disappear quickly; I once had a link from RT vanish within thirty seconds of posting it, while one from the CIA-controlled Washington Post on the very same topic, saying the same thing, stayed intact. That’s obviously to compel adherence to the War Party line, as is the arbitrary banning of (invariably pro-Russia and pro-Syria) users for any or no reason whatever.

The indirect, covert, censorship is much less well known, and that is the one that makes a lot of money for Zuckerberg. You may miss this fact, but Fakebook has no content. None. It’s like an empty building. All the content is provided by users, and all of it is free of cost to Zuckerberg. He just has to make money from it.

And he does it by quite simple means. You have a page on Fakebook where you want to post your music, or art, or writing, or anything that you want the world outside your contacts to see? Fine, you can do that...as long as you pay Zuckerberg to promote it. If you don’t, said page might as well not exist as far as 99.99999999% of Fakebookers are concerned; they’ll never see it.

Then there are the adverts. Fakebook keeps trying to mine data, endlessly, so that it can tailor adverts to you. Any of the “games” your idiot friends keep trying to get you to play aren’t games; they’re tools to get information about you so that advertisers can hit you with their lies. And, of course, the data also goes to the CIA. Of course it does.

I was sick of the attempts to brainwash me into a neurotic zombie spending every waking hour making money for Zuckerberg. I was sick of the censorship. I was sick of the “promoted material” being pushed on me.

This was although I was using far less than all the tools Fakebook kept trying to push on me. I did not download the Fakebook App. I refused to use Fakebook Messenger or Fakebook Lite. I did not play any games. I disabled all text messages and emails from Fakebook. And still it was far too much to tolerate.

So I quit.

Bravo. Everyone is an instant celebrity on Facebook, clamoring for their "15 minutes of fame", which becomes 1-2 hours daily. You eventually saw it for what it is yet so many do not. It is pathetic yet a huge swath of the population (? lemmings) participates, devoting hours per day to this collective madness. For what? To see how many "likes" they got from posting a photo or a status update? Pathetic. There are better ways to spend our short lives on this earth.

Great post. I am hoping to deactivate soon, now I am just not logging in as much. Stopped posting several months ago and recently stopped feeling the need to "like" what everyone is doing thinking, feeling, photographing day in and day out. It is really ridiculous what it has done to human relationships and society. My entire family and most of the people I know are on there, some gleefully "sharing" several times a day. I would say my sister devotes about 90 minutes a day to Facebook. I have better things to do, and a real life to live. I will not be a slave to the "like" button!

After being tossed into Farcebook jail again, this time for 7 days....for yet another petty reason, I basically told them to shove it.

What's right is right. I refuse to be singled out for calling someone a cheapskate in a thread about tipping...when Farcebook continues allow animal abuse and all other manner of vile stuff.

I'm also fed up with being targeted for defending myself against gangs of bullies who come out of anywhere almost any topic to attack when you don't agree with them. Farcebook always seems to take their side. I'm not putting up with being put in a corner (like some errant kindergartner) for telling someone to kiss my ass after THEY have called me vile names just for having an opposite opinion.

Nope ! I'm through. Sorry, friends but the fact that FB has made us lazy about actually physically getting together doesn't help either.

I have been off the Facebook for 8 years.
Just recently I was with a demented friend who was having a conversation with a PICTURE of a chick. Supposedly she was held up in an appartment against her will. This was not true but this is what she told him through her picture too him......by using code in random posts on his page.

I heard too many stories and Facebook will soon be out.....of......business.
Younger kids that I know think Facebook is for old people :)

Coming up for eight months now, I don't want to smoke again, and I still have a little bit of a horrible taste in my month from where my lungs are still cleaning themselves but on the whole...I feel much better and I'm especially amazed at how my eye sight has improved.

I smoked when I had a beer in my hand, so I still have to be careful when I'm in bars, I find the smell of someone else smoking absolutely delightful which is something that has certainly changed from when I first gave up. I'm not sure if the wanting will ever go away, I rather look at people that quit smoking as the same as people that have a drink problem, it only takes one to go back down that road again. I have tried to quit for many years and I find that stress can play a major part in trying to quit, but I am 40 now and have been smoking for a staggering 26 years which really does shock me as I never intended to be smoking for that long. I like to read how other people are doing when it comes to giving up...I don't know why, but it does seem to help.

I look forward to giving up for nine months as I see that as a hurdle, then one year, and then 5 years, life is certainly better without smoking but I think I'll always miss those moments, however, if we all want to live long and prosper (SPOC moment), logic would tell us that we can't smoke forever and the days of being young and foolish can't continue when it comes to abusing our bodies...it's a shame, but there are other ways to relax from a hard week at work. My father always used to say that there are very few luxuries in life and if it is a fag that gets you through then that's not so bad. I think it's easier to give up these days as less people are smoking and areas in bars are not as predominantly smoky, I did give up for nine months but ended up going to china where everyone smokes everywhere, plus with the pollution you just end up thinking...what the hell.

Facebook IS evil, because the world is evil. While I won't go as far as to say that mankind is essentially evil, we have an obvious potential for unspeakable evil. A tool like Facebook becomes but another tool for propagation of such dark forces. It brings out all the worst aspects of human nature : narcissism, jealousy, envy, hatred.
It may work for you if you have no enemies and no-one that you envy or dislike. If you think that description suits you, don't believe it.

I am the exact same way, hate ladders but I am fine with heights, Ladders attached to walls permanently I am fine. But any standing ladder Nope. I can look at them fine but I can not climb them. I will carry them but I hate holding them when someone climbs them. I can go up to the 2nd or 3rd step sometimes but I can never go further. I will not even use a ladder to go into my attic if I need to I will not.
